The world's greatest stage, open 24 hours
Las Vegas is the most American city on earth — an exercise in excess, fantasy, and the willing suspension of disbelief built in the middle of the Mojave Desert. Every major hotel is a theme park unto itself: walk through a recreated Paris, an Egyptian pyramid, a New York skyline, or Venetian canals with gondoliers within a single mile of Las Vegas Boulevard.
But Vegas is far more than gambling. The city has evolved into one of America's finest dining destinations — nearly every celebrity chef has a restaurant here, and the buffets that made the city famous have been replaced by Michelin-quality tasting menus. The entertainment calendar is unmatched: permanent residencies from world-class artists, Cirque du Soleil productions, boxing matches, EDM festivals, and the NFL's Raiders.
Most crucially, Vegas is the gateway to some of the American West's most spectacular natural scenery. The Grand Canyon's South Rim is a 4-hour drive; Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Hoover Dam, and Valley of Fire are all within easy day-trip distance. Come for the lights, stay for the canyons.
March – May & September – November: Spring and fall bring perfect desert temperatures (20–28 °C) and the biggest conventions.
February & December: Still very pleasant weather with holiday-period energy in December.
June – August: Genuinely extreme heat (40–45 °C) but casinos are aggressively air-conditioned and hotel rates plummet.
March Madness (NCAA Basketball) and New Year's Eve are the most expensive and crowded weekends of the year — avoid if budget-sensitive.

The 4.2-mile spine of megahotels, casinos, and spectacle. Everything iconic — Bellagio fountains, LINQ High Roller, the Sphere — is here.
The original Vegas, now covered by a dazzling 1,500-foot LED canopy. More affordable, grittier, and surprisingly fun — the zip line is worth it.
The local side of Vegas: hiking, cycling, and rock climbing through Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, just 20 minutes from the Strip.
At Paris Las Vegas — the best fish and chips outside Britain, from the master himself. Also try Hell's Kitchen for the Beef Wellington.
The California burger institution has multiple Vegas locations. Order Animal Style. It costs a fraction of the Strip restaurants.
At the Cosmopolitan — the buffet that proves Vegas buffets don't have to be sad. Small, chef-driven portions of genuinely excellent food.
Inside Caesars Palace, Nobu Matsuhisa's flagship remains one of the city's finest restaurants for Japanese-Peruvian cuisine.
On East Fremont, this intimate cocktail bar represents the grown-up, non-casino Vegas that locals actually inhabit.
The Strip is walkable end-to-end, though distances are deceptive — what looks like a short walk between two hotels can take 20 minutes. The Las Vegas Monorail runs along the east side of the Strip. The Deuce bus runs 24/7 along Las Vegas Blvd and is cheap. Taxis and rideshares (Uber/Lyft) are plentiful. For day trips to the Grand Canyon and Zion, renting a car at the airport is the most flexible option.
The free trams connecting Mandalay Bay–Luxor–Excalibur and Bellagio–Aria–Vdara are underused gems for Strip navigation.
Casinos pump in oxygen and have no clocks — time disappears. Set a gambling budget and stick to it.
Show tickets are often cheaper through the casino box office on the day. Rush lines and standby tickets exist for most shows.
Hydration is critical in the desert. Carry water, especially for any outdoor activities or day trips.
March to May and September to November offer ideal desert temperatures (18–28 °C). Summer is brutally hot (40+ °C) but casinos are aggressively air-conditioned and hotel prices drop sharply — sometimes by 60%.
Flights to Las Vegas (LAS) average around $280 — one of the most competitively priced US airports with frequent fare wars. Flexible dates pay off significantly: midweek fares can be half the weekend price.
Three to four days is ideal for the Strip experience. Add two more days for a Grand Canyon day trip (South Rim is 4 hours away), Zion National Park (2.5 hours), Red Rock Canyon (30 minutes), or Lake Mead.
Las Vegas is deceptively priced. The casino resorts have luxury hotel prices, but gambling, buffets, and off-Strip food can be cheap. Set a clear gambling budget. Resort fees (up to $50/night) are added to all hotel bills.
Las Vegas is famous for its 4-mile casino resort Strip, world-class entertainment and music residencies, celebrity chef restaurants, 24-hour nightlife, the Bellagio fountains, and proximity to Grand Canyon and Zion.
Not for the Strip — the free hotel trams, the Deuce bus, and Uber/Lyft cover it well. You do need a rental car for day trips to the Grand Canyon, Zion, Valley of Fire, and Red Rock Canyon.
